What about the land the building will be on?

Purchasing new land can be a tricky process. Many times a church will buy land that is useless because they can get a "bargain." Don't be fooled, that bargain could cost your church more in the long run. Look for the following things in a site before you purchase:

  • Accessibility to the site
  • Visibility
  • Proximity to current congregation
  • Proximity to prospective members (growth areas)
  • Zoning restrictions may need to be avoided.
  • Environmental restrictions (wetlands, wildlife refuges, national forests, etc.)
  • Soil conditions
  • Septic system requirements (if sewer is not available)
  • Natural restrictions that should be avoided (radical grade, rock, high water table, flood zones, etc.)
