Is the amount of land we have now sufficient, or do we need more?

There are two ways to acquire more land. First option is to move to a larger site and start from the beginning. The second option, if possible, is to acquire land surrounding the existing site. Every situation is unique and needs to be addressed individually. If there is doubt or lack of unity on the issue, a feasibility study can generally provide practical unbiased information upon which to base your decision. However, in general terms, several things can trigger the need for relocation:

  • The current site cannot accommodate the vision of the church's ministry. (In terms of numbers of people or types of ministry) either due to the amount of land or other negative characteristics of the site like zoning, sink holes, road access, accessible parking, etc.
  • The current buildings are of such an age or the type of existing construction makes expansion impractical and/or impossible or due to expense.
  • The current buildings cannot adequately be modified or adapted to current ministry needs, even after renovations and/or additional new building(s).
  • Changes in the community or a shift in demographics, making it difficult for the congregation to travel to the church.

This site provides a tool that will help you evaluate your need to relocate or acquire more land at your existing site.
